Help Problems with USB connection

Dears sirs and Madams!

I am proud new owner of Samsung Galaxy Note, but I cannot establish USB connection between the phone and Windows 7 x64. When i plugin the phone into computer's USB, i get following error, described in attached screenshot. Now, I've downloaded some drivers from Samsung, but obviously they are not working. Can someone help me with some tips?

Sincerely,
Marko

This is a bit of a long shot, but there are two types of usb cables. One is only for charging the battery and one has full operation. I don't know where I got the charging only one. I don't think it came with the phone. It might have been one I got with an extra battery and charger. All I know is that I have been caught with using the wrong one.

:D:D:DThanks man, did not think of that at all, will ask salesman!

One thing that I have noticed with my phone is that after connecting the phone to the computer and seeing the MTP connection message, I need to open the status area of the phone and click on the MTP status message. Wierd I know, but without doing this Windows XP does not show any files under the device and Windows 7 was showing bad device messages. Give this a try and see if it works for you. I had my phone connected to Windows 7 today without a problem.

Hope this helps...

Eric Ritchie.

Hi, you can try Samsung Kies. Below is the detailed steps:
Step 1: Install Kies to your PC.
Download the free Samsung Kies, and install it to your PC. During the installation, you can choose your country, language and what specific elements you want to install. Once the installation is finished, you can run it then you will go into the user guide interface which is useful to you.
Step 2: Setup your Samsung Galaxy Note for Kies connection.
Setup your Samsung Galaxy Note for Kies connection following the steps: Boot your Samsung Galaxy Note, press the Menu key. In the Menu interface, select Settings> About phone> USB settings> Samsung Kies.
Note: Ensure your USB cable is unplugged. Besides, ensure you aren

Now, this situation is getting weirder and weirder. :D At the time at this thread started, I had been using 10 meters long USB extender cable. Now, I've connected device to USB port directly to USB, without this extender cable and everything is recognized as it should (I think):

  • Android UMS Composite USB Device
  • Android UMS Composite USB Device
  • G:\
  • H:\
  • Samsung Android ADB Interface
  • Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device
  • Samsung Mobile USB Modem
  • USB Mass Storage Device
But now, when I try to acces G: and H: Drives from Explorer, I get:
Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (H: or G:).
It seems they are not even formatted (but I have music and some pictures in Galaxy Note, so the media is formatted and filled with data), can someone explan the reason for this?

Maybe you should check if your USB debugging mode is on.
Settings > Applications > Development.
Try switching it on and then plug it to your computer. If that doesn't work, unplug from your computer, switch USB debugging off and plug it in again.
I used to have this problem. Sometimes the USB works fine and sometimes, it's like yours. But mine wasn't entirely this problem. When I am able to access the USB, the files in my galaxy note are empty.

In the end, I bluetoothed important stuffs to my PC and 'factory data reset' the phone. Solved the problem but.. Pain in the ass. So yeah..

Hi, MarkoSiroki. I'm really confused too about your problem, because above steps happened on my note. If I've caused some trouble for you. I'm really sorry.
Do not bother or worry, the purpose of this thread is to help each other, but right now (after non slept night :D because of damn Galaxy Note) I am asking myself: Am I stupid, am I ****** or what? :D Now all works fine! The hint is: I cannot acces drives from Windows Explorer (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate version), but I AM IN DEBUG MODE right now because I am developing some app. But nevertheless, I the phone would had been in MTP (File Transfer) Mode, I still could not access to my files via Windows Explorer, but if you do following:

  • go to Start->Devices and Printers
  • Right Click on GT-N7000
  • Select Browse Files
Then you can do whatever you want with files! Copy them, move them, ... That works for me. Now, while developing, I am physically away from phone and this is annoying and I have to find proper extender cable ... :D

Hope this thread will help many more users.

Sincerely,
Marko
