Help Problems with videos.... no sound!!

Alright i just got the Incredible and i love it!!!! However whenever i try to play videos that i are on my sd card taken by my old phone there isnt any sound. Is anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it. Thanks!!

What format are the videos stored in? Not sure if it really matters but I *think* video playback on the phone is limited to certain file formats and codecs.

What is the extension of the file. .avi, .mp4, etc? Also, what media player do you use on your PC? I ask because you might be able to find out which codecs the video is using from your media player instead of installing a program like GSpot or the like.

ok well after looking they are .3g2. i tried converting them to wmv and now i have sound but no video what other format should i try converting too. on my computer i use vlc

how do you convert a 3g2 file to mp4 so that I can play video on the Incredible and hear audio? (I use a Mac Powerbook G4).

Give Handbrake a shot. It is an excellent converting/ripping tool.

HandBrake

I don't have a 3g2 file to test, but I think Handbrake will recognize it just fine and output it in an mp4 file that will work on the Incredible.

Also, sorry to the mods if posting links like this is not allowed.

im having the same issues ..... pc playback gets me video and NO audio. does anyone know what codec is required to get the audio to work in win7 media player???

a little bump for pc playback...

i did email HTC customer service over this issue (yesterday) and i am still waiting for a responce

so i got my responce back from HTC customer service:
Hi, I'm Victor, and I will be glad to assist you today. I suggest that you download and install a different player on your computer to play back the videos that you record on your device. There are many different players that may play the video and the audio of the videos that you make on your device. I do apologize we have no information on what 3rd party players may be able to play the videos with audio playback as well. If you have any other questions feel free to reply. You may also enjoy http://www.htc.com/us/community/, our customer-based forum, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices. I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at http://survey.htc.com/worldwide/. I hope you have a great day!

needless to say i was not happy with that responce. I just told them as much. we will see what the next responce is.

on another front, quicktime for windows does play the the video and audio. so i guess i can enjoy them in quicktime, but i am very dissapointed that the videos dont play in windows media player.

I ended up breaking down and installing the latest 'K-Lite Codec Pack Full' and now I get sound from the videos. Goofy that it requires a codec download.

well i just browsed the internet and found several websites that will convert it for free. Luckily i have a multicard reader on my computer so accessing the files was really easy.

so after i told HTC CS that their responce to the video pc playback issue was piss poor i was asked to take a survey. i, of course, gave them a failing grade on the survey. here is thier responce:

Hello Mike, My name is Mike as well and I am a member of the HTC Escalations team. This email is in response to a negative customer service satisfactory survey that you left on our website. I understand that you are unable to play videos recorded on your Incredible on your Windows 7 PC and were dissatisfied with the response you received for an email you sent in on the issue. I apologize for any inconvenience this situation may be causing you and wish to offer my assistance. Video recorded on the device is in .3gp format and the codec is mp4v-es. By default, Windows Media Player does not support these formats. Therefore you will either have to download another media player that supports these formats such as VLC or download another third party codec pac. One suggestion, off the record, is the Combined Community Codec Pac (CCCP), which can be located at www.cccp-project.net/. If you download and run this software, then you should be able to play your videos. Understand that these are outside the realm of HTC support, which is why it was not suggested earlier, and you are proceeding at your own risk. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please respond to this email with phone contact information other than your mobile number so that we may work together to get to the bottom of your issue. Sincerely, Mike HTC Escalations. finally a little more helpfull

cheers all

The video files initially opened fine with both QuickTime Player and RealPlayer.

I downloaded the Combined Community Codec Pac (CCCP) as suggested (off the record) by HTC support. The video files played both audio and video with Windows Media Player (WMP) after installing the CCCP.

Just curious... Why would you call HTC if you were having problems playing videos with VLC player? For that you should have gone to the VLC forums and simply asked for help. I can't believe you actually gave this poor CS rep from HTC a negative survey when your problem had nothing to do with HTC and he gave you good advice.

You need the AMR audio codec (Adaptive Multi-Rate Audio). It's included in the K-Lite Codec Pack (FULL version) for Windows for free here: Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.4.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.4.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.4.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools
After you install the codec for Windows Media Player, you'll hear the audio. I hope this helps!
