ProClip Mounting System

If you're in the UK, why don't you contact these guys:

I can always ship to the UK from the US, but even with my discount it doesn't always work out to be a bargain. I've shipped to guys in Australia and NZ and have been cheaper than what they can buy Brodit products locally. Strange.

Also, going to get the 40cm extUSB adapter sold separately so you guys can do a semi permanent like install with separate audio and power. Pretty sweet. And it's the only long cable out there with the adapter since extUSB extension cables are either non-existent or custom and expensive.

If you've never bought a ProClip (Brodit) mounting system then let me enlighten you.
You need a vehicle specific mount first.

Which is what my question was aimed at.. I'm guessing that it doesn't come with the car mount? Where do I get one from that site?

I'm thinking they just sell the holder and then I would buy the car mount from ProClipUSA.com, is this correct?

I think I have it figured out.. Buy the phone holder at http://www.dsldevelopments.com/search.asp (Part # 875168) then buy the actual car mount from ProClipUSA.com)

check your PM's. ProClip's the US distributor for Brodit. They have practically everything. I've even bought right hand drive car mounts for people overseas when it's been cheaper for them to buy from me and pay two legs of shipping. Was surprised they had some things in stock that aren't US products.

Yup. Brodit are a Swedish company who sell their products in the US (and sometimes UK) as ProClip (USA). There are plenty distributors in the US and UK selling Brodit stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to the posts.

My pleasure. Granted I have a vested interest in it, but their stuff is plenty expensive so a chance to save people some cash is usually appreciated. FYI, I've been selling their stuff since the dawn of smartphones. Back when the Palm smartphones were out, nobody was making basic holsters for them. I got in touch with ProClip and helped design a few and they gave me a reseller's account. Seidio stole my thunder along with the cheap Chinese injection molders and the holster business dried up. But hanging out in the forums of products I have, I post about the ProClip products, help out when I can answering questions about installs, hook ups and such. There's other companies out there besides ProClip that do dash mounts, but outside of Kuda, they usually require removing the dash bezel and mounting to the radio mount screws. Sometimes they're the only decent option though depending on the car. So if anyone has questions on they're install, fire away.

Since more and more people are doing streaming one nice thing with HTC phones is their extUSB out. The extra pinout in their modified mini USB adapter does audio, and there is a nice adapter that plugs in and separates out charging (via mini USB) and audio (via a 3.5 headphone out). The adapter looks like this:
843752.jpg-225x

It's about 40cm long. They've only had them attached to certain powered mounts, but I'm going to get them to sell it separately. Was trying to get them to make an adjustable cradle so you could use any HTC phone with the center usb out, but they said shot it down. I played with a short one on the Eris and it worked really well. Sound quality was a touch better too than going through the headphone jack. Shocked the hell out of the store because I had the volume up and it just started blaring in the Verizon store. Was kinda funny.

Got the mount today..just want to say it works great and a nice discount from dbpaddler.

Fast shipping to..was shipped via FedEx ground from Chicago and only took a day to get here.

So while the price was a bit steep even with the discount..it is worth it.

And as far as Googles car mount..from the picture I saw of it, it looks like a joke, and not to mention probably is just a windshield mount..which in my car would be to far away for the purpose of even having a mount in the car.

good to hear. Midwest people do well with shipping times from ProClip. I've never had ground take more than 3 days from them.

The only thing I would consider using of google's is their home dock. In the car I'd get a console mount of some sort from ProClip. They tend to have flat/horizontal mounting plates. Then I'd fix the home dock to the plate via some 3m double sided tape. The good stuff is dark gray or black I believe. Don't use the foam type. It stinks. It might sit a touch low for some, but it'll look really clean and you have the audio out as well so you can route audio and charging inconspicuously. The angle should be nice for easy viewing.

Would hope their car dock would offer similar functionality. Most likely the dock connects to the windshield mount in a way it can be detached and mounted to a proclip or other dash mount (pro-fit, panavise, bracketron, kuda). If it's just a passive cradle, they're idiots.

I ordered my Proclip and active mount on Saturday - so hope it comes quick.

I've bought Co-Pilot and it looks ok so far. Just need the clip and mount to come so I can give the Tomtom to the Mrs.

Got the kit today and installed it tonight. Took like 5 mins. Fits my truck perfectly. Looks great. Works great. I'm in heaven. Will post pics tomorrow.

With regards to the "looks great" comment I should say that it looks great with just the phone in the cradle. Start plugging in car chargers and auxiliary audio cables and it starts to not look so hot.

hence the cable I mentioned above. returns it to a one cable solution for charging and audio that plugs into the extUSB connector and separates out audio and charging 40cm away which should be long enough to have it hidden. That, or drop the $150 on a Parrot Bluetooth setup and stream music via BT.

Another thing for cord management is buy a couple cord clips and attach them to the back of the cradle. You can run the cords through them so it seems like a more fixed setup. One of those plastic coils can contain the two cords until it reaches the cradle. The power one can come out first so there's some length to play with. Keep the audio in till it gets behind the cradle. Have it run through a stuck on cord clip of some sort so just enough sticks out to plug it in to the headset jack.

Great feedback, I'll check it out. Here are my pics for now. Lol, you can see the strip of velcro I used to use to mount my iPod. As you can see in landscape mode some of the buttons on the right side of the stereo deck are blocked but thankfully, I never use any of those buttons anyway so it's all good.

Nice. I'd definitely ditch that thick white cable and go with something like this:
31VlLUexdfL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

That would clean that top part up. Black blends in better and the right angle lays closer to the phone instead of sticking straight up. They make it in a RCA version too depending on how it connects to your head unit.

You could also tap into your fuse box with something like this.
21wAMu2jHsL._SL500_AA250_.jpg

Creates two fuses from one and allows you to easily add in a 12v socket that can be hidden behind the dash. You can pop in a usb adapter and run a non coiled usb cable where your audio cable is. Keep it all clean and behind the dash and free up that lighter socket.

That's if you want to go to that kind of effort. They even have a fixed install powered cradle that would work with that fuse tap above.

Or if you do the extUSB adapter idea along with the above, you'd only have the one cable sticking out from the head unit area.

Wow, sounds like I've got lots of options. My truck is just a 2 seater so 99% of the time it's just me in there except when I take my 5yr old daughter to school in the morning and she don't care too much about aesthetics. I would like to clean it up a bit but it's not super high on the priority list. Really like the black cord you recommended and also the adapter looks interesting. Appreciate all the feedback!

What do you think about this? It's only $50. Before I got a stereo with an Aux. out I tried using an FM transmitter set up with my iPod and the sound quality was kind of crappy so I'm kind of leery of this kind of set up. But it would be a nice plug n play solution if it worked good.

Is that adapter you mentioned sold separately yet? If so, how much is it and where can I get it?

edit: never mind about that parrot thingy. some of the reviews are pretty bad. Also, I found the adapter on Amazon.

what do you think about this one? It's 87cm long

Today I bought the right angled black cable you mentioned and installed it so that helps a bit, thanks. I'm going to look in to moving the 12v socket behind the dash also like you mentioned. As far as the extUSB adapter goes, I read some reviews on the one you posted and also another one I was looking at and on both of them, people were complaining about a humming noise coming through the stereo when the charger was plugged in. I know something like that would drive me crazy so I decided to hold off on that for now. I re-routed my cables so it looks a little better but I'll post before and after pictures when I'm all done.

I looked in to the Parrot blue tooth route also but it's just too expensive. I'm not in my car long enough on a daily basis to make it worth while..

Are you saying that ProClip sells certain powered N1 mounts with this 40cm extUSB cable, or certain powered mounts for other phones? I haven't bought a car mount yet and the only thing I'm waiting for is a one-cable connection for both audio and power that I can discreetly route behind the dash. Is this currently possible for the N1, or are we still waiting?

I went ahead and ordered this adapter from Amazon today after all. I figure for $16 it's worth the gamble. If I hear a hum while charging, I'll throw it away. But if I don't, It will really clean up all the cords and provide a nice one cable solution. I'll also be able to compare the sound between the 3.5mm headphone jack vs. the extUSB port. I'll post the results as soon as I get it and if it works out, I'll take some pics of my set up. 40cm is about 16 inches which is plenty long for my purposes. The cord certainly doesn't look that long in the pic though. They must have made a modified one just for picture purposes.

I used my Pro-Clip today for the first extended time. I am reasonably happy with Pro-Clip - although, the part which clips into the top of the vent is not that secure and pops out if you don't hold the mount when sliding the phone in. Maybe peculiar to the model/vents on my car perhaps?

I used it with Co-Pilot Live 8 and am impressed with it. The Nexus One screen was also excellent in the sun and definitely better than my Bury handsfree kit screen by a long way. (full brightness as the phone was powered).

My only gripe is that the Co-Pilot software did not warn me of the London Congestion Charge (maybe a setting I've missed).

Sounds like it might require a little adjustment - I've used ProClip mounts in 3 different vehicles and never had that issue. They can be a very tight fit - I paid to have it fitted professionally in my girlfriend's new Fiesta to make sure it was snugly fitted without me cracking the dashboard (car was only a few days old at the time).

I think I will be buying this mount. I won't have to worry about audio AUX cables... as my new Sony Xplod deck supports A2DP Bluetooth! w00t!

Bad news. This adapter doesn't fit the Nexus 1. Damn! I'v already added a cigarette lighter in the glove box. I'm thinking about just putting my desktop dock in there and streaming to my stereo. Kind of a hack job and of course, now no desktop dock that I can use to actually charge the phone at night. Ugh. What a pain.

I thought about that but now I'm wondering if HTC is indeed still sending audio out through the USB port and even if they are, will this adapter be able to separate it. I would need 2 of them also. I know they aren't very expensive but all these little things add up. Thanks for the advice though! I'll look some more into it.

Well that's not going to work anyways b/c the male end of the adapter is not mini usb but something slightly different. Thanks HTC. What I would need is a Micro HTC SKN6252 USB to Micro USB adapter and even then, who knows if it would actually work for audio. I just got off the phone with Google Tech Support and after doing some research the guy said it would support audio out but they don't make any kind of adapter for it yet. I'll take that with a grain of salt though till I hear something more concrete.
