Root Professional Rooters?

I've never heard of such a thing. If you want root, do it yourself. Go look and read matlocks guide. Then read more. Head over to xda and read there. I say this because rooting is the easy part. Its the stuff you encounter after root and learning how to do thongs the proper way to avoid heartaches!

It's just beyond the scope of my knowledge and time consumption.... Who knows though.... I just can not stand all the bloatware that is coming with the new updates. In a year or so, they are going to have 500+ useless apps that I can't get rid of unless I root !! Sprint sucks for doing this!

Take wrap's advice, and read this sticky:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html

The only thing that could hang you up is if you have the 2.02 hboot, in which case, you'll have to wait a little bit longer for the unrevoked update or do it the hard way. Whatever you do, don't install the OTA. You'll more than likely make it harder to root.

I will say this about paying someone to root your phone:

1) Most of the time, it's a scam. Rooting is not hard, and anyone who tells you it's hard to the point where you need to pay them to do it for you is lying.
2) If it's not a scam, do you really want someone to do all the work for you, then hand you a phone with great potential to break things? If you didn't root it, never did any reading, how are you going to know what you should and shouldn't do? I mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you're not willing to do the appropriate reading and root the phone yourself, you probably shouldn't have root.

i would suggest not rooting if your not able to do it yourself because in most cases you will end up doing something to mess your phone up and you will more than likely blame the devs or something when they are not responsible for what you do.

not saying it WILL happen but its happened before.

I agree with doing it yourself. After all, the ability to tweak and modify the phone is one of the reasons I got the phone. Now to read read read!

Btw, I did download the OTA yesterday. Oh well.

Right now, this is your only option:

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 S-OFF - Got the Game Upset Edition - Updated 12.16.10 - xda-developers

We haven't heard anything about hboot 2.10 (what you now have) from unrevoked, but hopefully their silence means they're working on an update to root everything up to 2.10. We know 2.02 for sure.

I found this elsewhere re: rooting EVO. How does this sound?

How to root the HTC EVO 4G

We show you how to root the HTC EVO 4G and flash any custom ROM you please

Published on Apr 15, 2010

The HTC EVO 4G has finally been "rooted", thus allowing users to gain direct access to the smartphone's file system.
This enables users to modify the phone’s firmware so as to allow for things like custom themes, apps and custom operating systems/ROMs. It is similar to jailbreaking an iPhone, in that it gives users abilities that are not enabled by default.
Disclaimer: While root access is easily achieved, it can void your warranty and have negative effects on the operation of your phone. We recommend that you do the necessary research on root access before you attempt the above as you could cause damage to your handset.
Prerequisits:

  • a Windows PC
  • a microUSB cable
  • a microSD card (to be made into a 'goldcard')
Required files:

Root:

  1. Make your microSD card into a goldcard by following these instructions
  2. Copy the PC36IMG.zip file downloaded above to your memory card's main directory
  3. Hold down the 'volume down' and 'power' buttons until you see a white screen appear
  4. Once your EVO 4G has read the contents of the memory card, it will ask if you want to flash - select yes
  5. When the flash is complete, reboot your phone
Viola! You now have a rooted HTC EVO 4G!
Note: You should now delete the PC36IMG.zip file on your memory card.
You're now ready to flash the recovery image so you can install custom ROM files.

  1. Unzip the EVO-recovery.zip file you downloaded above onto your desktop
  2. With your phone connected to your PC, open a command prompt and type "adb reboot recovery" (without quotes) to put the EVO 4G into recovery mode
  3. Once you see the the red triangle and exclamation point appear on the screen, run the recovery-windows.bat file you unzipped in step 1
  4. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE!
That's it! You're now ready to back up your EVO 4G and flash with custom ROMs until you're blue in the face.

That's old. I'm pretty sure those are the rooting procedures for eclair. Im not really sure what your question is exactly but if you want good instructions follow links above.

The procedure I quoted above seemed simpler than what I have seen here and elsewhere.... so wanted to know if it would work. I realize that sooner or later, I will have to root my phone...so looking for the easiest method.

Dude seriously. RTFM. Read the matlock guide and root (if you can't figure it out then don't root, trust me.) Actually head over to unrevoked and use their soft root to just give root access to titanium backup and remove whatever you want. Note however that usually those kinds of operations are when you root, nandroid backup, **** around with uninstalling apps, and then restore nandroid because you ****ed up. You REALLy don't want to accidently uninstall something, have an unstable phone, and then complain to us that "OMG ROOTING S0X0RS BLA BLA BLA".

Were serious about safety, your mental safety. So read first, root second. Not vice versa. Its like asking someone to "buy a car for you" when you don't know how to drive thinking you'll just "pick it up". Learn first.

There is an old programmer saying: Learn it first, as much as you can. Don't avoid learning it and just try doing crap thinking "ill learn it later" because it will always bite you in the ass later.

What part of what I wrote did you not understand? I said I have to "read read read"....did I not? Did I say I was going to just attempt to root the thing without doing my research first? Damn. Relax bro...I'm not asking for your advice on how to live my life. Jeeez.

And if I DO attempt something and **** it up, trust me - I wouldn't be blaming anyone on any site for it - I take full responsibility for my actions. Read and understand before making dumb accusations.

This is your first problem... you can't just go out and find some thread in how to root when you don't really understand everything. The guide you posted above is for rooting android 2.1. I quoted a link that was posted half way down this thread. You should take a look. It was said to you that since you accepted the ota that the above link is your only option as far as rooting. Things change over time, you can't just go to some thread and be wow this root method seems easier so ill do it this way. Well unfortunatlt it doesn't work that way. You can very easily turn your phone into a paper weight if you don't know what your doing. Only use information that is recent. Especially since toy have hboot 2.10.

How do you find your phones hboot version?

EDIT: Forget it. Found the process to find it. Mines at 2.10.

Turn the phone off, then press and hold the volume down button while turning the phone back on. That will take you to hboot, where you will see the version number.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted on how to find it. I must have read the"rooting for dummies" instructions too fast the first time. Thanks.
