fyi, phone is set to EVRC as default, you can switch it up to EVRC-B to force it to a "semi-better" audio quality. Some may say go to 13k more bandwidth for audio quality. You be the judge.

I remember this tweak from the HTC Eris days.

You can change it to various audio options, and this may improve outbound audio quality and inbound, so test if you please.

Thanks for the info to go deeper in option 6. On the D1, it was option 4.

I don't like messing around in the programming without specific guidance. I have not bricked a DROID yet, and I don't want there to be a first time...
 
I was the one that mentioned this option years ago on other devices and also when the Droid X came out. However, Moto/Verizon did something different on this device. That setting requires a reboot to take effect, and on devices before this one the device would auto-reboot once something was changed and you exited. I noticed something was up when the Droid 3 didn't reboot after making a change. If you go back in you'll see that the setting does not hold through the reboot, so either Moto or Verizon locked this down so that you can't apply the changes from this menu anymore. I'd already discussed this somewhere else, maybe it was a different forum.
 
My phone reboots immediately after applying this update and going back. But, I have noticed (and have been busy) that the codec setting doesn't seem to stick. Not entirely sure why though. Have to take some time and poke around.

yes, I was noticing this also, you can even hunt down in the forums for the answer. I don't think it's technically wrong to post... but i'll let frisco correct me before posting. :-) Either way, I dont bother with tethering personally, but i know plenty of others do. You can, if you care, tether via bluetooth without issue.
 
It's best not to make reference in detail to anything not legal and/or not in compliance with carrier/user contract.

Tethering is not the grey area it once was, sadly.
