prolem with k9 mail

I have loaded k9 mail onto my droid and I have two email accounts set up. My gmail account is very quick. My work email is very slow. I was wondering if there is a fix to this. It polls every five minutes. Also I keep on getting emails that I have deleted numerous times off my phone and they are not in my inbox at work.

What type of mail account is it? "Work" could be anything.

I have always had a similar problem with K9. I have to POP accounts that it is set up to check and it seems like it is almost continually "checking mail". I've turned down the frequency that K9 checks for mail but it still just sits there forever checking for mail and/or actually downloading messages. No clue why, thought it was just me.
