Proof that the Droid does not have a Multi Touch Keyboard

well this is a little disappointing. Especially after more than one review has specifically said it does have a multi touch virtual keyboard.

It's not that big of a deal. The device supports multitouch. Someone will make a replacement keyboard app that will do it.

Ok apparently it is multitouch, just a different type of one

From the Android 2.0 highlights:
Android virtual keyboard
An improved keyboard layout to makes it easier to hit the correct characters and improve typing speed.
The framework's multi-touch support ensures that key presses aren't missed while typing rapidly with two fingers.

Apparently the second key will show up after the first one is released where on the iphone the second key shows up immediately.

This is why I can't wait to get the phone in hand :D

Maybe Multitouch has been Disabled for the US version of the droid and for the System {Keyboard etc.} while apps like "Picsay" still work fine? :)

I'm sure I read something about the "Milestone" {EU version of droid} has multitouch support...

Could not have said it better. Guys dont forget that is Android, if you dont like something, go get an app that changes it, or even make your own!

I was just playing around with one at the verizon store. Didn't check to see if it was multi-touch (wasn't thinking about it consciously) but the virtual keyboard was actually much nicer to type on than I thought it would be.

The Droid has the Google Navigator, but multi-touch features have been disabled; the Milestone has the multi-touch features enabled, but no Google Navigator. The latter is understandable (it's beta and might not cover areas outside the US), but what they decided to do with the Droid makes no sense whatsoever.

Multi-touch is there/available, we've already seen one app that uses it for zoom (the graphics app - Pic-Say is the name, I think) running on the Droid and using two-finger zoom.

So there's no reason why it won't show up in apps, widgets, and plug-ins on the Droid,

True, but the point is that it does not come with it out of the box and it should.

The running rumor is that Apple has a multitouch implementation patent and Google doesnt want to step on any legal toes. Neither does Motorola who's been declared dead a few times before and still might be on it's deathbed.

I can get over it once genius programmers get a plugin going or better yet another browser in the market that will provide what the people want. Opera Mobile 9.7 got me used to double-tap to zoom anyway. I'll feel right at home!

Did y'all just ignore Kamillion's post?

According to his post the Droid's keyboard is designed not to perform the way Apple's does. In the Droid's implementation, if you press and hold "L" and then press "S" the "S" won't be entered until the "T" is released. It's different from the iPhone but IT IS MULTITOUCH. (If you look at Endagadget's video the second key DOES light up, he just never lets go of the first key, so you don't get to see it work).

It serves the same purpose. Until you have it in hand, you won't know which, if either, performs better.
