proper usb disconnect method

What is the proper way of disconnecting the slide from usb after after transferring data to it. What I normally do is pull down the top bar and change the usb connection to charge only and then wait for the phone to put the card in ready state, then I disconnect it.

Is that right?

I know on my FroYo ROM the screen on the phone says to "eject" on the PC before turning of USB on the phone... just to be on the safe side I always have the PC break the connection before unplugging
