Root pros and cons for overclocking

I was wondering if i could get some of yalls opinions about overclocking the dx. I'm rooted running apex and launcher pro. Is it worth it, how exactly does it make it faster, will it hurt the phone, etc

I find the X more than adequate at 1ghz, so I don't overclock my device. However, I do underclock and undervolt it to extend the battery life.

The device doesn't need to run all the time at 1ghz, like when it is in Standby or it isn't doing much, so I have my X running from 300mhz to 1ghz scaling the speed to demand.

Underclocking and undervolting doesn't put any stress on the processor and components like extreme overclocking can.

There's overclocking, which gets you more speed, smoother animations and decreased battery life.

Then there's undervolting, which gets you better battery life.

If you do both, higher top speed with a lower voltage, you get the best of both worlds. Every phone is different tho. Some phones achieve faster speeds or lower voltages (or both).

I'm overclocked with jRummy's Overclock and use QuickClock to establish lower voltage profiles. Both are apps worth buying. QuickClock is adding a lot of new features like stress testing. I'm running 1250 @ 65.

IMHO, it's all about bragging rights.

Will your phone really perform better? Because no two cpu chips are exactly identical, 1.4GHz on person x phone is unattainable on person y phone, who maxes out at 1.2GHz.

What apps take advantage of overclocking? Certainly not the main functions of my DX, which to me are placing calls and getting Gmail. Maybe gaming, but come on, playing World of Warcraft or Call of Duty on a 4.3" screen???

I've had 3 X's so far... first one could OC to about 1450.... second one to about 1350.... same for third. My quadrant scores were screaming high on my first x - 2300+. Can't crack 2K on my second or third.... doesn't really matter cuz I can't tell a real world speed difference. Like others, I use Jrummys app... my x sits at 1.15 oc at low voltage. Seems to get more battery life with out any hiccups. I don't think it's a huge difference over stock though. I also use SETcpu for throttling profiles. I actually prefer CPUtuner, which seemed to gain some battery life over SETcpu, but CPUtuner has that annoying popup screen that root rights have been applied EVERY time you turn on your screen.... so I unintstalled and went back to SETcpu.
