Accessories protecting screen from a drop

Just wondering what thoughts you guys had on which product out there provides the best shock absorption for the screen when dropped from say ohh pocket high. (still hurts to think of my poor eris) I have always been a fan of a naked phone. People get paid good money to design these things and I don't see a reason to mess that up. But I digress after dropping my Eris and cracking the screen I don't want to take a chance with this massive screen cracking. I know the phone isn't out yet so its hard to say exactly which one will be the best, but which company out there has the best reputation for protection?

This phone will have Gorila Glass the Eris does not.

1. A Silicone/rubberized case will absorb shock, Find one that gives a little thickness up top so that the screen is no longer 100% flush and the rubber/silicone will take the impact. Avoid hard cases they will just transfer the shock much easier.

2. A high quality screen protector, will add some resilience to the screen.

This is what I am getting.

I was thinking the same thing as far as cases go. Seems to me like something softer would have more shock absorption than a hard case. I'm thinking about bypassing the screen protectors though. scratches don't bother me. drops on the other hand

Agreed, they make some bad ass cases. I was thinking of checking out the Seidio Active line for my X though.
I saw that and am thinking that I might get the Seidio. It's nice that you can strip off part of it and leave a thin case or "up-armor" it :D

What do you guys think in terms of the shell holster combo vs the body glove option at VZW?

Which one would fair better for a 1ft drop ish...

I'm not sure about the X, but the shell/holster combo for the eris was fairly rugged. Lots of good reviews as well. I'm just not a holster kinda guy anymore.
