Help Protocol for "transferring" to a new phone?

Bearly

Android Expert
Contacts - synched with Gmail, not an issue

APPS - I haven't used App Brain market sync to install apps, but one time I ran the sync and my apps on the phone were "replaced" by what was on my App Brain list, such that I lost some apps on the phone and had to re-download them.

My bigger question is how to "preserve" paid apps and if those are automatically accounted for by virtue of the market being associated with a Google account. I bet once I sync my Google account, everything should be "synched" (but how with regards to apps?), right?

SMS - how, if I'm not rooted?

Ringtones, background - manually find them on my other phone and move them over?

Finally, if there is an order that's best to do this all in, what is it?

Thanks!

Come on, nobody knows?

I just need to "transfer" apps from one phone to another. There is no intuitive way to do this with AppBrain Market Sync. Not that I know of, at least...

as far as apps i use the backup/restore option in astro file manager they store on your sd card.
ringtones if they are on your sd card you just have to set them as your tones.

So I ...

1) backup with ASTRO on the old phone

2) Move the files onto the new phone's SD card

3) Download ASTRO on new phone, restore apps from SD card

4) Sync with AppBrain on new phone

Sound right?

Why is there no intuitive way to do this?! :(

Sounds intuitive enough to me. ;)

Yeah, but I read that "restoring" with ASTRO on a different phone - so, transferring apps to another phone - somehow "breaks" the market, such that the market doesn't recognize what apps are purchased or something.

Is that true?
