Proximity sensor not working

Well, I tried to restore a few different nandroids after noticing that my proximity sensor quit working. No dice, sensor does not shut screen off regardless of whatever rom I load. Is there any utility I can use to test the hardware and rule out a failed sensor for sure?

found a sensor test app, it shows 0's for both light sensor and proximity sensor. Not looking good.

try a factory reset. I had this happen before. I notticed it happened after reloading too many apps at one time.

Well I already tried flashing some different roms. Should have cleared it up doing that if it was software related. I think I am just going to have to get used to hitting the lock button on the screen whenever I take or place a call.
