Help Proximity Sensor problem?

Hi guys.
Apologies if this has been covered but I have done a search - to no avail.
I've had a Desire for months now, and recently persuaded my wife to upgrade to a Wildfire.
It's on 3 and she's now had it for just over a month. However - she informs me that when she's on a call, the phone starts to make random calls, make bleep sounds and generally screws the call up. Now I'm assuming that the proximity sensor is not working properly. The screen goes blank when held to the ear but quite clearly something is wrong.
The people in our 3 store - who now have to rate as the most unfriendly useless people IN THE WORLD wouldn't entertain the idea of swapping the handset for us. They even suggested we should go on the internet and look for updates as it sounds like a software issue! They would only offer to send it away for repair.
I thought I'd check on here first for any possible solutions.
Many thanks in advance.

Basically any uk mobile shop or site would only swap if it's less than 28 days old. My screen went blank after 4 months and had to have it sent away back to HTC via CPW. I got it back within 3 weeks fixed and working great.

If you can't get anywhere with software, maybe a repair shop would do the warranty repair onsite?

Otherwise you'll have to send it away.

the screen will go off when you hold the phone to your ear to stop you pressing buttons but maybe it is a software issue and not hardware.
Have you installed Froyo on it yet ?

Thanks for the advice. The phone is 3 branded so 2.2 is not available yet. Didn't know if de-branding would affect the warranty if I end up sending it back?

yes it will effect the warranty so i would just send it off to HTC it may take up to 3 weeks for the problem to be fixed IF it can be fixed that is.

If they can't fix it or they say they fixed it and it's not satifactory you would have a right to a replacement then.

It's a long few weeks using and old, borrowed non-android phone in the meantime.

Make sure you back up all you can (data/contacts/etc) before you take it to 3 for them to send off.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I emailed HTC and had a reply today. They actually apologised (more than they did in the 3 shop) but said as the phone is over 28 days old they will only offer to repair it - which they say will only take 5-10 working days!
Still not happy as the fault was there from day 1 but I'm probably going to have to take them up on this.
Thanks again all.

Sorry to say... best we have until they update the drivers.
Add this or update your boot.prop with following:

Code:
# Disable blackscreen issue after call
ro.lge.proximity.delay = 5
mot.proximity.delay = 5

Hope that helps someone.

Dagnabbit thought this forum was Wildfire S... well it helped some Wildfire S's ;)

Regards,
Rob
