Help Proximity Sensor Problems?

Ricochet

Newbie
Is anyone else experiencing problems with their Droid 3's proximity sensor?

Out of the box, mine worked as expected--blanking the display when near my face & awakening it when pulled away.

Recently, the display goes blank when I click 'connect' after manually dialing & won't awaken without the power button. After which, it remains on & active to face presses. No amout of movement/coverage/shaking will change either condition.

Not sure if it's a faulty sensor or an unwanted power-saving "feature." And just to muddy things, the phone now has a TechSkin full-screen protector (but that didn't affect performance on my my OG Droid. So, yeah...).

I couldn't find a likely sensor monitoring process, listed in running services. And I haven't checked for an app to set or test the sensor's sensitivity, yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mine doesn't seem to work at all... when I talk with the phone close to my face, the touch screen stays on, and I'm inadvertently pushing buttons all of the time.

Is it just a problem with my phone?

Could be. There are a couple of free apps to test your proximity sensor:

"Proximity Sensor Finder" tests for availability, then shows: 3 cm (near) or 100 cm (far)

"AndroSensor" is more comprehensive & lists many different Droid sensors

(In my own case, it was the TechSkin. Cutting a small hole above the proxy solved it.)
