As someone who's internet was off for two days since videotron is a ship of fool and the captain is drunk, my tether was a LIFESAVER.
Caveat: you need an internet connection to do this which defeats the purpose, I know (this is on firefox)
1. Find a computer that has an internet connection. Do it from work or whatever, it takes seconds to download what you need.
2. get user agent switcher https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ (you can right click to download it directly to your computer)
3. go here: Tech Patterns :: Firefox UserAgent Switcher list and download the latest list file
4. On your computer: go to the addons page in firefox, click on the gear icon in top right corner of the page and "select install addon from file" and install the file you've brought over
5. restart firefox and then open addons page again, select the "user agent switcher" addon, select it and then you add the list file from step 3.
6. now you have a TON of user agents to choose from. I used "browsers linux - firefox 21.0" and the internet worked flawlessly. NOTE: YOU MAY HAVE TO RE-SELECT THIS EVERY TIME YOU RE-START FIREFOX
