Just bought 3 of these and they arrived today. Take a look:

It's a sticky polyurethane mat that is sticky but, like not sticky at the same time. I put mine on the front of my head unit (it's mostly flat across the front) and it lets me stick my phone directly to it letting me see what music is playing etc. It's also mostly clear so I can still see whatever I need to on my head unit before putting my phone on it. I have a case with a kickstand on the back so it's not flat and it still sticks really well. It's easy to take the phone off but it's sticky enough that the phone won't come off. I tested this by whacking the phone in multiple ways that might emulate off roading of some sort.
Also could be used on bumpy type dashboards so that your suction cup mount will stick, since I've had some issues with this myself. I'll probably keep sticking it right onto my head unit though
