Help Pushing Mute with my Face!!

bfluegge

Lurker
I've had my M8 for a couple of months now, and I have been having an issue since I got it, where my face pushes buttons while on a call. Usually it pushes the mute button, which is a huge pain. Happened 3 times on one call yesterday. When i did an online chat with Verizon, I got the usual "turn your phone off and back on" followed by "perform a factory reset." Is anyone else having this issue? Am I just holding the phone like an idiot? Is something wrong with my proximity sensor? Can I change a setting to fix this? Please help! Thanks!

Bring the phone into a Verizon company store. Tell them that the proximity sensor doesn't work, and you'd like a warranty replacement. (Make sure you have EVERYTHING backed up somewhere.) (You should have done this the first time you were on a call and the screen didn't go black.)

It looks like Verizon is hiring grocery clerks in tech support again. It's a hardware problem and can't be fixed by the user.

You can go and test the proximity sensor in the HTC guide app. Just go to troubleshoot then phone calls and you'll see it. If it works then it might need to be calibrated or something. There are apps to adjust the strength of the proximity sensor but you should be able to get a replacement if it is actually defective.
