I have read where some phones have benefited from a factory reset after an update. Be aware that this will probably put your phone to stock though, so take steps to save things that are important to you.
Another idea would be to contact your carrier and see if the phone is set up correctly, still, or if there is something they need to do on their end to get it working again.

Yeah, a factory data reset if often helpful after an Android (over-the-air) upgrade since it will clear any settings (among other things) whose prior values might not really be perfectly compatible with the new OS's versions of the apps.
It won't change the version of the Android operating system, though, so you'll still be running Jellybean version 4.2.2.
