QI Wireless Charging

Was curious if the 4 will have NFC charging with the only need to buy a wireless charging stand? I have the Nokia DT-910 that I use on my DNA and was kinda hoping to be able to use it with the Note 4/Edge.

Its says its NFC enabled, but that could me varying levels of support. Anybody NFC charge their Note 3?

It will require a wireless charging back. There were pictures of it shown after the unveiling but I can not find them now.

So something will need to be purchased in order to have this feature? It is not an "out of the box" feature? Will it be third party or will it be a Samsung "option"?

That seems to be the case. There will be an official Samsung Qii charging backplate for sale that will allow NFC charging. This is the same way it was done for the Note 3.

No problem. I have never had wireless charging before. I am going to wait and see what the real world reviews are like before I decide with the Note 4. I really like that Samsung announced that the Note 4 will be able to charge from dead to 50% in 30 minutes with a plugged in charger.

Its convenient, but not fast at all. I would say its almost slower than USB charging. My DNA sits on the DT-910 (stand up charger) and it charges and allows me to easily grab it as I come to and fro from my desk.

One thing of note, NFC charging DOES heat up a battery for sure. And typically heat = reduced longevity of the battery. For a replaceable battery in a phone like the note it shouldn't be do much concern. My DNA isn't easily (user) replaceable.

Its certainly not a deal breaker for me. Was just curious about its availability and what was necessary to "get it done" should I want it.

I see that samsung has a wireless charging matt for the note 4/3, but don't show a new back for the note 4. Is one available, or will it support wireless charging from the factory?

My understanding is that you need to buy a reciever (either a replacement batt cover, or one of the cards that sits on the battery itself).

Waiting for such to become available myself

This is a receiver for the 9100... but the power terminals are apparently the same for the 910V and probably other variants:

Wireless Qi Charger Charging Pad Receiver Kit for Samsung Galaxy NOTE4 N9100 New | eBay

I went ahead and ordered it... I certainly hope that the terminals all match up for the various models (they should). I'll let you know if it works when it comes in.

EDIT: For some reason my link's not showing up for me, so I assume you can't see it either. Go to eBay and search for "Wireless Qi Charger Charging Pad Receiver Kit For Samsung Galaxy Note4 N9100 New". The receiver only is $9.99 shipped. You can also order it with a charging pad if you don't have one... but I prefer the Tylt Vu charger, especially if you want a night-time bedside clock out of your phone like mine.

:)

I haven't done wireless charging before. So this receiver kit is supposed to fit under the stock cover? Seems pretty tight already. Got my Note4 today and also have a car coming with a built in Qi charger in a couple weeks that I want to take advantage of.

Is that supposed to be a cover shown in the ebay ad? If so, kinda tough to not have a hole for the camera, etc...

Please let us know how this works out...

What you see in the pic is a receiver card that goes between the cover and the battery

From my research (others on here are more knowledegable), the receiver card fits, but IS tight (causing a slight bow to the batt cover)...

Well, the receiver coil is only 1mm thin, so we are talking miniscule changes in the thickness of the phone under the back cover. I have a Qi wireless receiver under my Note 3 standard cover and it's no issue at all. Even in a case, it charges just fine. But I'll let you know if there is trouble.

And no, ADPTS, it's not a phone cover: rather, it's a wireless charging pad that lies flat on a horizontal surface. Once you have a wireless receiver in the Note 4, you just place the phone on the pad and voila! Wireless charging!

I think that I may turn my Note 4 back in. The developer edition of the Note 4 is coming soon, and I really, really want to root & ROM this phone.

:)

There will be a cover you can buy for the Note 4 which will enable wireless charging. It was 50 bucks for the Note 3 back cover, so I'd expect similar pricing if you don't want to have to deal with a receiver. I've not had much experience with those, but with the Note 3 cover, it was as simple as swapping the old one for the new wireless one.

Does anyone know if this will work in the AT&T version of the Note 4? I know that they typically alter the hardware so you can't use Qi and have to use PowerMat. I haven't heard anything about the Note 4 though, and wonder if anyone has any definitive info.

I found on the Verizon site at least a wireless charger and more need some advice if I want a note4 myself.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Wireless Charging Battery Cover - Frost White
Wireless Charging S-View Flip Cover for Galaxy Note 4 - White

Which one would you get?

Also screen protectors

Flexible Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Anti-Scratch Screen Protectors for Galaxy Note 4

which of these would you get?

I ordered the Qi wireless charging receiver for the Note 4 (N9100 - but the internal terminals should be identical on all models). I have one in my Note 3 along with the Tylt Vu wireless charging stand and they work great together. No need to spend a young fortune on a new back cover unless you just want to...

To answer your question about screen protectors, I must confess that I LOVE the i-Blason leather portfolio for my Note 3, available on Amazon. HOWEVER: it has a small rubber lip that comes over the bezel to hold it in place that would wreak havoc on a standard screen protector. Fortunately Armorsuit makes a case-friendly Military Shield screen protector that covers the screen, not the bezel... allowing full use of my portfolio (or any other case) without messing it up.

All in all a great combination!

Nice but if you get the wireless charger back you have to get like an otterbox to still protect it?How does wireless charging work thanks for the advice so far.

It depends. My internal wireless receive coil adds 1mm to the thickness, which is not an issue.

How it works goes back to Ohm's Law of Electronics: if you run a current through a coil, it produces a magnetic field. Conversely, if you run a magnetic field through a coil, it produces current. The Qi charging base has a flat coil in it, which creates a magnetic field. The receiver coil in the phone enters the magnetic field when you place the phone on the base... the resulting current charges the battery. This process is known as "induction" or "inductive charging".

Electronics is so cool :D

I found a few sellers on e-Bay that have the QI Charging receiver tags, all look identical.
Is this where you got yours,or something/somewhere else?

Also, has anyone seen an OEM (or other) QI Charging battery cover anywhere (other than the S-View Flip Covers)?

Don't those "wireless charging" covers mean WAY longer charging periods + zero protection from falls/etc?

Yeppers,typically double the charging time.
As for protection,no more or less than a standard battery cover.

I'm still interested in a QI enabled battery cover if anyone has a link to one, &, recommendations for QI receiver tags/coils.

I just ordered this from EXPANSYS:

Samsung Wireless Charging Cover for Galaxy Note 4 (Charcoal Black) #EP-CN910INEG - Expansys USA

Went ahead & sprang for the overnight shipping,it'll prolly arrive before the phone does, also overnight delivery,we'll see if either pull through............. ;)

I'm guessing using this replacement battery cover will add just enough extra thickness to where just about every case available will not fit.

I can take measurements once it arrives if anyone is interested.
I'm going COMMANDO w/this phone,so,the abovementioned measuring is the only info I can give regarding fit of cases w/this battery cover.
