QIK back on the Android Market BUT......

On with Oridus but no audio?? He has to hold down "talk" mine just works (as expected). We also learned it does not maintain a call (eventually hung up) when you go to Home screen (leave Qik in background). Oh well, good chattin bro!

Update: It looks like it's working but keeps crashing, kind of buggy. We think because of full-duplexing issues you have to have one person hold talk while the other doesn't have to. Kind of annoying but also makes sense. Maybe they will figure it out in the future, but for now, if you press Talk it mutes and I think freezes the stream while talking.

I have to hold that talk button down in order to hear you... :( I can't find any settings on it either

I gotta say - when you get it working, it works a lot smoother than fring. IPvFletch and I also figured out how the "talk" Button works.

The person who initiates the call can talk without pressing a button. But in order to eliminate feedback, the person who accepted the call has to hold a talk button in order to respond.

Over my 3g network, this works pretty damn smooth.

Oh and I'm on EVDO (spotty 3G) and weak WiFi - I need to go to the back of my house I guess, but I'm gonna take a break for now, too much androidforums.com for one day.. :)

I've had a lot of the same issues as everyone else. I uninstalled the original (orange) version 2.18 then downloaded the blue version. Sorry I do not remember that version number. This did not work for me and even after uninstalling the orange I could not remove the orange shortcut icon. Every time I discarded it when I went back in to apps, it returned. So since the blue wouldn't work, I uninstalled the blue and found the orange in market and installed back to 2.18. Today I read this thread and decided to look under "qik video" which gave me no hits on the search so I went with "qik" and I found "qik for htc evo 4g" which when downloaded told me it would replace my earlier version. I never saw this with the earlier downloads. In this version, 0.03.48, I now have the first screen that shows four chooses which include at the top "video chat". All excited I grabbed my wife's evo to download the same thing and when using all different search words "qik, qik video, or qik for htc evo 4g" I received only one hit for something called qiktalk which has nothing to do with this. I can't figure out for the life of me why her phone won't pull up qik when searched for. I'll try tomorrow maybe but I think I'm at least half way there. Good luck everyone! This should be fun when it's all fixed. I hope this helped somewhat. Note: I did update everything under settings after trying the first time as well. It didn't make a difference.

1. Go here and download QIK 2.43 Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: Qik for EVO 4G.apk
2. Move the file to your sd card on your EVO
3. Go to the Android Market search for and install "AppsInstaller"
4. During the installation it will block the install and popup another window in which you will need to select something like allow installation from sources other than the market.
5. Now you will get prompted that this will overwrite your existing files, go ahead.
6. Now softreset your EVO.

It's should work now.

FYI, you can get to it again from Market > Downloads, if you previously downloaded it but now it is missing from a Market search.

Also FYI, you have to register your phone #. This means getting into Video Chat, getting the warning to register, following the link, inputting your phone number manually into the web page, getting an SMS and clicking on the link in the SMS. A lot of work but well worth it!! :)

i followed the link to xda... installed the apk to my storage card. clicked on it with a file explorer app and it immediately asked if i wanted to update. i said yes and it updated. turned off phone (did not remove battery) and rebooted and the blue icon is there and the video chat is up...

Is anyone else having the trouble of not getting the txt to register your phone? I did my wife's phone and it got the text but no matter how many I send, I'm just not getting the txt to register.
