Qik is pretty unsafe!

After testing the Qik program only 4 times since I got my phone. Each time I tested, I found that someone either commented or followed me. I don't like the fact that people are able to follow what exactly your doing and be able to view your live streams.

This is something to discuss about since the 4G video conferencing uses Qik. How can one be safe!?
 
I made a qik account and if you did too then you would have already noticed it gives your general location .

I'm sure there is a way to disable that. But you are going to have to sign in to check.
 
You can change your privacy and what information is shared such as location though the Qik application's interface. When you upload or stream videos by default the video are made public and are viewable as a live stream via Qik | Live videos

If that bothers you set your application to stream your video private. It's entirely up to you, but you should really learn the program before criticizing it. Having control of your privacy is your responsibility.
 
I'll be getting 2 Evos next week. One for me and one for my wife. One of our questions was about how this Qik software works. We wanted to have an understanding about how it works instead of just throwing things up on a public site.

I think the OP has a valid point. Not everyone wants to share everything with the world. I know I'm probably in the minority but I don't really have a desire to post any personal videos onto youtube for all to see nor would I want complete strangers looking at something I posted on the Qik server. I would only use it if I could restrict who saw it. For example, sharing videos with friends and family would be nice so it's good if the system could be setup to restrict things. In fact, it would be better if it restricted them by default and only opened it all for everyone if you specifically tell it to. But then you're getting into the whole Facebook style controversy and obviously these companies want you to bare your soul to everyone by default to increase usage of their platform.

In qik, change Public to Private. Then use Share and choose her email address / SMS phone number. Qik will send a link to her that she can view in her browser.

The problem is that Qik *is* a service like youtube and it's got settings for who can see videos (just like youtube). It's not a MMS replacement per se, but more an app and service that works like Youtube, except that you can stream live as well I believe. When I used it on my Touch Pro it was basically just an app that shot video and shared it on a website.

If you are concerned about publishing these videos, you may want to consider a service not expressly designed for publishing and sharing videos.

Otherwise, just set your channel to Private and I assume you can define who can see the videos.

Change your privacy settings on Qik to "PRIVATE". This will make all your videos unsearchable and not public.

You can also change the Geo-Tag to follow me, street, city, or not at all. of course the not at all would be the most secure.

I believe this can be done on your phone or on your account settings on Qik.com

yes, MyHTCevo is correct. you can in fact change your settings to private before shooting the vid.
 
I use qik alot.

Here is what you need to do. First. From home page, right hand side is a setting tab, has a little cog next to it. Click and go to profile. Towards the bottom is location, click off.

When you setup your account on your phone, at least with blackberry, it will ask you to make something private or public. Select private. Before you start recording you can select private or public. Select private.

If you missed the private or public thing, go to your video archive and select private.
