question about 3g

How do I know when I'm using the 3g network on my hero? I notice that a co-worker of mine has it on his Verizon phone.

it says "Ev" (EvDo) at the top, as opposed to "1x" (1xRtt, or "2G")

If your Hero has the little EV on top of two arrows (1 up and 1 down) then you are running 3G.
