question about att

i have an iphone with unlimited data and also have 5 lines under my name but only one is available for an upgrade. and that is not my current line. however i can do whatever i want with that line so my question is to you guys, in case i decide to upgrade to an atrix using that line would i be required to put one of the new capped data plans? can anyone suggest me what i can do as in regards to my line and the other line. i just want the atrix with unlimited data but dont want to pay for two datas on two different phones. i know is confusing. someone please help me

I used a different line to upgrade to the iPhone 4 last year after unlimited data went away and I kept my unlimited data. You can just tell AT&T you want to use a line's upgrade but you want your number to be on the phone or if you don't have a micro sim (iPhone 4) you can simply switch the sim cards.

If you upgrade that line to a smartPhone and it doesn't already have data plan you will have to add one, and it won't be unlimited.

After having said that, this is how you get around it. Upgrade the line and add the data plan. Then simply replace the sim card in the Atrix with the one that is in your iphone and it will use the iphone unlimited data plan that is associated with that sim. And, you will keep the number that you currently use.

Then call AT&T and tell them that you lost the Atrix or gave it to your brother or aren't using it or whatever you want to tell them. Then say you are gonna put the sim back in the phone that was on that line previously(you may have to give them the imei number, from that phone, if they can't find it on your account). After switching back to the other phone on that line they will let you remove the data plan.

If you don't have the old phone, you can buy a cheap AT&T pay as you go phone from their site for around 10.00 after shipping.

In case you can't tell I have done this a couple of times. Good luck and hope this was helpful.

Oh yeah. Or you can use this method too. I actually had did this also. I had to do the other method because I wanted to suspend a line, but they won't let you suspend a data package. So you have to switch phones, turn the data off then suspend the line. :)

I am sorry but this is where I got lost the first option sounds easier but with this option I have an old razor what do I tell them that I am putting it back on that one?

but knap the option that lsutigers03 gave me, can I do that one for sure? its sounds easier

Yes, you can do that for sure. You just need to make sure it is done at an AT&T store. Not sure Best Buy will understand how to do it. I was able to do it at the apple store, but only because AT&T reps were there handling it.

And it is much easier. :)

It's really easy I have 3 lines an do this for my phone all the time...
Go to the store they look up the line "s" that is eligible and you buy the phone for that and tell them it's for X line so don't activate it for line s but for line x.... All they care about is that line s is in a new 2 year contract.

Just upgrade the other line, and when you get the phone put your sim card in the new phone. Easy as that. I've done that 3 times so far since last June. We've kept the unlimited data plans that way.

yes but when i do it online it will ask me to add a data plan wont it? then i would have both phones with data plans

you can call att and tell them to remove the data plan if they do add it to the other line. I believe they can backdate it and you never see a charge on your bill for it. I've never once seen a charge on my bills for data plans on the upgraded lines.

Why do it online??? If you do I believe you don't have to add data then when you call to activate make sure it activates to YOUR line
