Help Question about buttons

I was wondering if there is any way to control the illumination of the buttons (home, back, menu, and search) on the Evo? I can't seem to figure out why they light up when they do. It doesn't seem to be due to the ambient light as sometimes it lights up during the day and stays dark at night. Am I missing a setting somewhere? It's not a huge issue but it's kind of annoying. Thanks!

There is an ambient light sensor near the ear piece (front speaker), when it detects low levels of light, the capacitive buttons (home, menu, back search) on the bottom light up.

That's been an issue since the launch day phones. Sometimes they come on for no reason. Sometimes they don't come on when they should. It's not often, but it happens

You can see if they're doing what they should by shining a flashlight on it or covering the sensor with your finger (not at the same time, obviously).
