Root Question about changing out SD card

Hi guys,

I just bought a new 16GB Class 10 card for my Evo. I'm running CM7 with DT and I'm wondering what I need to do to make the trade.

Do I need to transfer them all back over to the phone before switching and formatting the new card? If so, what command would I use to do that?

Or, is there a way to copy the apps from the A2SD partition on the old card onto the same partition on the new card?

Thanks in advance!!

unfortunately there is no way to just copy the apps on your card that way. the best way to transfer everything is:
1.use titanium backup to backup your apps
2.have your card copied to your computer.
3.then pop in the new card. go into recovery and partition your card.
4.once that is done, you can get to the card in recovery and transfer the content back to the new card.
5.wipe dalvik cache and cache and boot backup
6.use tb to restore your apps.

ocnbrze is on target. I use an app called "AppSaver" to save apps as .apk files onto my SD card and move them that way. Titanium is great because it not only saves the .apk but also the app data.

If you want the fastest way to move over your info, I recommend doing it the old fashioned method over your computer.

Great, thanks Ocn! That's where I was confused.

I was thinking that it left part of the app on the phone and that if I changed out the card then part of the app would still be there messing things up.

I used your guide to get it set up initially. Thanks for taking the time to put that together!

no worries.

dt can do more things than just move apps. it can move the cache and data over to the card as well freeing up even more space on your card. in the guide should be a link to all of the dt commands.
