Root question about changing 'Verizon Wireless' text on lock/notification bar

my question is why do you have to be deodexed for this to work properly? if i have the Droid X Bootstrapper installed & i'm rooted, wouldn't it work if i were to push the file back into my phone thru adb shell w/o any problems?

I did it and was not deotexed. Why don't you want to deotexed ?

thx. worked great. not necessary anymore...since all custom roms come deodexed anyway, right?
