Question about Connect and Android 4.0+

Hello all,

I'm still pretty new to trying to mod phones and so far I'm enjoying myself with some of the custom roms you guys have linked on the site. (Thanks for the hard work)

My main question is concerning Android 4.0+ on the Connect. Many of the custom roms I've seen are stock variants (or at least I think). The one I've been looking at is the newer post with the Alpha rom several people are working on. It looks very interesting, I'm just scared to try an Alpha just yet. I might give it a go tonight anyway.

Now, I know very little about modding so go easy on me here, but would the rom from the LG Motion be of help since it's the same carrier/brand? Also, if I'm not mistaken the LG Viper? I think is the same model for another carrier. Is that compatible? I know the Alpha I was looking at was JellyBean, but for ICS would they work?

Sorry for the seemingly dumb questions,
Thanks ahead for anyone who can/feels like answering ;p

Now I don't know too much either but the Motion isn't as helpful as the Viper. Phones with the same processor should be helpful I think

Every one of the phones, no matter their version are different. Different carriers have the ability to request different hardware, thus changing the efficiency of the rom on other phones. In theory it would be simple to take a LS840, or the Verizon model's information from it, then re-work it to be compatible, but truth be told due to how android's base is coded it's no where NEAR that easy. In fact, it would be easier to build one from existing open source frameworks that are known to work with our resolution than anything else. The reason for this is because it's easier to find the information in something such as CWM10 to control a modem than it is in the stock android file pitched to a verizon phone from its devs as more than likely the modem inside is different than ours.

Just because we share similar specs doesn't mean our phones perform as well. I'm not entirely sure as (obviously) I don't' have a phone with verizon and sprint, but from what i DO know of phones ( A LOT) and programming (EVEN MORE THAN PHONES) you create a shitload of troubles when you try to "pitch this in here to replace that." Actually, I know that for a fact because the first start I got "online" as a programmer was in World of Warcraft Server Emulation, and few things in life are more difficult than creating a public server that operates based on client connections FROM the client and debugged code.

Short answer = No, it would be too much trouble to take anything from another phone unless it's the same hardware, hardware id, vendor id, and driver model version. Anything less than that will just be more headaches, and a greater entry into the pool of already existing confusion. THe thing to remember here is 90% of the time devs don't actually have the phone they're programming for. They're going off prior knowledge, and what others can feed them through logcats, etc. Working off another rom will just confuse them, and possibly **** up every single one of our phones. Then they won't get paid, and we'll all rage quit.

Wow, I was starting to lose hope that anyone was still messing with the Connect.

I'm playing around with the Number_Two v1.8 rom so far and I can't say I really have a complaint. Two others were near the top of the root forum, an alpha build which looked good but had a broken link at the time and another that wouldn't boot when I flashed it after multiple times.

I still have a lot to learn when it comes to this stuff, but so far so good I guess.

Thanks again

we skiped ics it wasn't playing nice so we moved on to jellybean a base from the lg lucid
