I just got my evo and downloaded froyo pretty much right away. I want to do a factory reset, but that will cause me to lose everything, including my contacts, right? I tried syncing my contacts to my gmail account but they are not showing up when I log in to gmail on my computer. Is there something special I need to do when I log in to gmail to get my contacts? Or is it as simple as just clicking on contacts once you sync them from your Evo?

I mean your contacts should come up in gmail. Whether you manually imported them or if you imported them from a file. Once you figure out what is up with gmail - if the phone isn't syncing your contacts ( on evo go to settings - accounts & sync - google - sync contacts...nothing special you need to do from gmail on your computer for this to work) simply use gmail to export your contact to a .vcf file. Then put this file on your sdcard and manually import them via the mail program.
Also - i used to be nervous about factory resets until I paid for my backup pro. It's worth for only $4.99. I have it make a backup every night.

Your contacts on the phone are probably "phone contacts", which wont sync with gmail. You need to convert them to "google contacts", and they will sync. To do this, export the contacts to the sd card, delete the contacts on the phone, then reimport them as google contacts.
