Question About Gallery & Folders [Organization wise]

I have a particular folder titled "vacation", where I have all my photos from each individual place I've been. I've also downloaded the application "File Cover" [but we'll get back to that later]

So the "Vacation" folder has individual sub folders: NY, Miami, Beijing, Canada...etc.

When I pull them up in gallery, all the photos show up together. I dont, however want my Beijing folder to show up because it has photos from inportant artifacts and whatnot I dont want everyone to see. I downloaded "File Cover" to hide and password protect them. But they still show up in the gallery in small thumbnails, even though they are locked.

Is there a way to hide the GALLERY folder?
 
I'd like to know as well, I don't have any of mine protected, but when I open gallery, they're all bunched together. If thats the case, why even try and organize to begin with? Hopefully someone can chime in and help.

Exactly. I am using the apps, however, they still showing the sub folders even though I dont want it to.
 
Mine is all bunched together when i want it showing sub folders.
any tips on this?

a little bit off-topic, can videos also organized in some way like gallery?
 
i wish the gallery would let you change it to alphabetical sort order instead of newest or oldest first just stupid

I just got my multimedia dock today and going into the slideshow function made me realize something:

Right now all I have on my droid are album cover pictures. Eventually I'll have camera pics and maybe even happy family memories from the digital photo collection.

When using the Slide Show functionality, however, I don't want pictures of my daughters jumping into autumn leaves interspersed with the covers to Operation: Mindcrime and MC Chris is Dead. I can't see any way to select a particular folder for Gallery. Everything gets lumped together into a single directory.

Am I missing something, or is the Gallery/Slideshow functionality really that limited?

my battery is dead at the moment, but I recall that it shows an "all pictures" folder and then a folder for every sub-folder.
 
hmm, i'm using subfolder in gallery now after i flash to a customised rom. :p
but the lack of organisation of gallery is still annoying.
 
Are we looking for a LOCK folder, i haven't tried it but does anything in camera or files/folders have that options. I have to search MARKET and see if they have an App for security or protecting files.

This is true, even to the extent that each album has its own subfolder in the Gallery app for the cover art. However I cannot find any way to designate a certain folder or folders as the "Slideshow" folder, while ignoring the rest. Gallery seems to collect every image on the phone (note to self: do not try to hide porn on the droid) ;)
 
found this cool tip on the touchdown google group page of all places-

if you want to keep the gallery from indexing and showing the contents of a certain folder- just put a file INSIDE the folder called .nomedia

so all your icon folders (or porn- cough cough- tensider) wont show up.

I actually used the astro filemanager to do it. It wont let you create a file but it will let you creat a zip. So i made a new zip- anyname.zip then save. Then edit it in astro and rename to .nomedia - presto chango the folder is 'invisible' to the gallery.

Have other folders use astro to copy and paste .nomedia into any other folder you want.
 
I thought I read that any folder that starts w/ a period will be ignored by gallery...

Yup - appears any folder named .whatever will be ignored by the gallery (as well as by the music player....
 
Good tip. That solves the porn crisis ;) but still not the slideshow one. If I hide my album art, I won't have it for the media player. They ("they" being the Android Programming Overlords) need to create a Setting in the Slideshow function that allows the user to choose the folder from which to pull.

Thank you!! My girlfriend likes to send me pictures sometimes, and I don't want everyone I show my phone to to see them :o

I tried creating a new folder especially for these NSFW photos, but Gallery the snoop dog still finds them.
