Help Question about how Sim cards work

On CDMA carriers like Boost and Virgin Mobile, the SIM only serves to use LTE data. It doesn't hold account information the way a SIM does on a GSM phone, so there's no benefit to switching the SIM - and no reason to remove it from the phone when you sell it.

If you have a SIM malfunction on a Boost or Virgin Mobile phone, customer service should be able to send you a replacement.

I have a second volt that i plan to make a testing phone, for roms and such. I will make due with WiFi for the second phone then, rather than actually pay for a second service

You can always swap them back and forth on your account by entering the MEID on the website. I'm not sure if there is a limit to how often Boost allows you to do it, though.

The SIM is there to handle the lte band, your account is still authorized using the standard CDMA MEDI numbers the phone keeps track of internally.

I have my MEID number, could i just access a dialer menu and input it to switch service to the other phone?

I'm assuming that Boost has a similar mechanism for swapping phones to the one that Virgin Mobile uses - you sign into your account where it shows the current phone you're using, select "swap phones" and enter the MEID and ICCID of the new phone you want to use. There's no reason you can't use that to switch between two different phones of the same model. The only thing that may hold you back would be if you had some kind of expired plan that would be lost by switching phones.

Ohh crap maybe. I'm grandfathered in on a really good plan. That might mess with it? Well since i can't swap like i thought i could, i only really need to do it once then. From my old volt to the more recently bought one, in which case i can just call customer service and have them do it

It won't mess with your plan unless you actually change your plan. It will ask you to re-choose your plan, but your current plan will be listed.
