hello i want to install epic experience or another ROM thats better. i'm on the official (and then pulled) froyo 2.2.1. i am rooted too with the One click root and recovery for the epic 4g V2.55 (got it from xda forums. is this enough to install a rom? do i need to do something else? how exactly do i install the rom? i've been reading up on it but i'm so scared i'll brick my phone. from what i understand i have to boot in recovery mode right? with the vol/camera/power buttons? any help/info/ and advice is greatly appreciated

Download the .zip for the ROM you want and put the .zip on your sdcard (make sure it's named something that you'll recognize). Make sure that it's an EB13 ROM and NOT EXT4, since Epic Experience v2.0.08 is EB13 based and is considered RFS so you are good to go.

Power off the phone.

Do the 3 button death grip (i.e. press and HOLD volume down key, camera key and power button key). When you get into recovery, your volume keys will scroll your cursor up and down and the camera key will select the item highlighted.

MAKE A BACKUP!!!

Once the backup is completed, wipe data (three times), wipe cache (three times) and finally click on advanced and wipe dalvik cache (three times). Go back to the main screen and select "install .zip from SD card" and select the .zip that you put on your SD Card that is the ROM you want to flash.

When the ROM finishes flashing, select Reboot Phone. Wait for the phone to load (can take 5-10 minutes).

Now... you have a choice. You can either reload everything manually OR you can do it the easy way.

If you want to try the easy way (which is what I do when I go from ROM to ROM), power the phone back off and boot into recovery. Select "Backup and Restore" and then "Advanced Restore" and restore DATA only. Then select Reboot Phone.

Enjoy the ROM!!!

Doesn't he want one click CWM3??? That's what did me in...trying to flash a ROM with CWM2. Had to do all kinds of extra work to send my phone back in time just so I could root to CWM3 and then flash the ROM.

Depends on the ROM. It appears as though the one he wants is RFS so he wouldn't be able to use CWM3.

Still not sure why CWM3 didn't stock when you did it though!

ok i installed the rom but i have 2 questions. first my time in the notification menu is all off. second i dont like the way the launcher is set up. i prefer it the other way i had it. i've enclosed pics. if i can't get these fixed then i'm gonna go back to the way i had it. how do i odin back to my stock 2.2.1 with the root?

I can't see the pics from the phandroid app, but you can always restore your backup or try I different ROM first.

I'll hop on the browser when I have time so I can see what you are talking about.

sorry i forgot to attach them

What launcher were you using before? What launcher was installed in the ROM you loaded? My guess...they're two different ones. Load the "first" one back on and you'll be good to go. It won't just magically appear the same way, you'll have to set it up again.

Also, looks like you had some widget towards the top. Reinstall it, and put it back there.

You'll basically have to go through and make the "look" of everything back up again. You completely wiped your phone, so that's to be expected. It'll take some time to get things set up the way they were before, but once you do, I'm sure you'll be happy with the increased preformance from before.

I haven't taken the plunge yet (will this week) but I'm guessing a backup of launcher pro reinstalled in a newly flashed ROM would probably put things like they were before. If not, I'll just have to set it all up again.

Not sure if I should start a new thread or just add....

I know this is a very newbie question but I see a lot of people describing ROMs and Android versions... i.e Bonsai with Gingerbread. Doesn't the ROM itself contain the Android version?

"with Gingerbread" probably just means they're using a Gingerbread theme, not the actual Android OS Gingerbread. I don't think that's available for US Galaxy S Phones yet. There is one for a European phone, but that runs on GSM, not CDMA, so if you try to flash it, I'm almost certain you'll completely brick your phone.

But say I start on DK28 and I flash to Bonzai - I think I have to do a modem update first per wiki. Will I then be on EB13 from doing the Bonzai flash?

Sounds about right, but I would wait for someone else to respond and not take my word for it. I just did all this last night for the first time, but I knew what I wanted to go with, so that's all I really read about. I'm not familiar with Bonzai stuff, but I hear it's quite good, so I don't think you can go wrong with it.

It probably depends on what version of Bonzai you're going to, but my assumption would be anything released within the past week or two would be based off the EB13 from Sprint.

I would also question what file system you're running as well. I believe DK28 was RFS while most of the newer ones are EXT4. If you have CWM 3.0.0.5/6, you should already be set for EXT4. If you have an earlier version, you'll still be on RFS.

I never went to DK28 so I'm not sure what it all runs. There is a great Midnight package out there which allows you to build your own custom ROM if you so choose. He incorporated many zip files into the release so you can bascially pick and choose what you want to install. Kind of like a buffet.

Try clearing the defaults of the TW Launcher (Menu/Settings/Apps/Manage Apps/All). Then, when you press home, select "launcher".

For the time... the launcher may fix that. Or try a reboot and see how it goes.
