Help question about led indicator

when i receive a text message, is it normal for the led indicator to blink green for only a few minutes and then stops blinking? is it possible to set the indicator to keep blinking until i read the message?

The default is that the firmware stops flashing the LED notification after 5 mins. HTC claims that it's to "save battery", but I don't buy that since a flashing LED consumes virtually nothing from a 1400mAH battery. I asked if it can be changed with a firmware update, but they said "no, it's hardware related"...again I don't believe that. Sounds like tech support and the software engineers are not communicating.

Having said that, apparently the Handcent app in the Market can keep the notification LED going, and I believe there's another but I don't recall the name.

Handcent does this, the LED stays blue.
