Root Question about overclocking

I am running Phoenix Rising 4.1 and been for about a week now and haven't noticed any lag. But I was wondering about any big advantages/reasons I should be overclocking or underclocking my phone. Also, my battery life is about a day and half with several texts and phones call plus playing games, web surfing, and streaming video.

Thanks :)

Overlocking runs your phone beyond spec. There are no promises here and any setting above spec can lead to instability and/or corruption. Theoretically, it can also reduce the useful life of the device by damaging the hardware, although except in extreme cases most users will probably replace their phone before the effects of this are noticed. But there's always the chance you'll brick your phone once you start trying to push the hardware to run faster than it was designed.

Overclocking will reduce battery life unless you can get away with undervolting it too. This also runs the phone outside of spec so no settings are going to work for all people.

Thanks for the info sremick. I understand what overclocking and underclocking does. (Had to on the HTC Hero w/Sprint  ) What I was wondering are there any advantages with doing so with the captivate? Or better yet is there a reason to?

The advantages and reasons are the same as overclocking anything else, and were mentioned in my post. ;)

Overclocking make it run faster, but comes with risks.
