Root question about restoring a back up._.

highline

Lurker
so i love using all the roms this phone provides but hate doing the whole factory reset when switching. but i use all three roms (froyocream sandwich, miui, cm7 reloaded) frequently. so i was just wondering , does it do any harm to just make a back up of each rom and then restore when i want to switch? or should i still go into cwm and do a wipe cache/ davlik cache/ factory reset to avoid having problems? ._. if someone could answer that would be sweet :D

You should be fine just restoring the backups. You probably don't need to bother wiping stuff unless you have issues. But taking the extra minute or so to wipe beforehand can make sure you don't have any weird issues because of not doing so.

You can set up each rom how you like it, then boot into recovery and make a backup. Do that for each rom and you can switch back and forth between the backups as you like. You should still do a complete wipe before restoring the backup.

no need for wipes with a backup, since its restoring an image it has to completely get rid of all data under it, so wiping before restoring would be a moot point.

just restore each rom.

also, Go SMS can save your texts between the roms if you dont already use it. it backs up and restores texts from its own menu to a file on the SD card that can be used between roms.

thats the best solution if you switch roms but dont change apps between them.

if you are adding and removing apps constantly, the restores wont be as efficient becuase youll need to make a backup again each time you add an app or change something in a rom.
