Root Question about rooting 1.1.0

HanzoH

Newbie
Hey guys, I'm pretty familiar with android and rooting but I had a question. What is the best way to root my new Nook color with 1.1.0? I read the sticky about rooting but the unlockr guide didn't have the files for 1.1.0.

I found a video on youtube but I'm not sure if this is the best method...

Thanks! :)

So when I download Autonooter 3.0 and try to extract the files it opens into another winzip file and if I try to unzip that it opens to 3 files.

0.fat
1.fat
2

?

According to the video, you dont extract the ZIP file twice, just once, as that makes the img file you will then burn to your SD card.

Use Autonooter 3.0 by GMPower for 1.1.0 Nook Colors.

Follow all directions to the letter!!!!!

But quickly, steps are:
Burn img to uSD card and put card in powered off NC (use a program like Winimage to burn card)
Don't turn NC back on
Plug NC into computer via USB cable
Wait for it to finish installing
Unplug and turn NC on
Sign into youtube, gmail, and then test market
Done.

Experienced users can do the whole process in under 10 minutes. It's really not that hard.

If I extract the zip file once I just get another zip file, not a img file. I've tried winzip and 7zip.

If I try to write that zip file I get an error message "an error ocurred while trying to get a handle on the device. error 8"

Could it be a problem with the download? This obviously has been working for most people right?

I have windows vista, don't know if that is an issue...

I have Vista as well and just used the standard zip functionality built into windows, so that's not the issue.

I'd look for another source and make sure you compare the MD5 hash information to verify that indeed the correct file has been downloaded.

I don't know the answer to your question, since I don't have it in front of me, but the first question is "Are you using Win32diskimage" to burn the files?

I've tried downloading from the auto-nooter 3.0 xda thread. I'm not sure how to check a md5 hash...

And yes I'm using Win32diskimage. I have tried to write the file after I unzip but it is not an .img file and it just gives me an error.

I think I'm gonna try downloading and unzipping from another computer and see if it makes a difference.

Ok, thank you guys for the help! I tried on another computer and everything went very smoothly! I am loving my nook so much. :)

Ok, so just in case anyone has a similar problem like I did here's what fixed my problem. I just had to uninstall winzip and then the .img file shows up like it's supposed to.

I am burning the honeycomb preview on my SD card right now!

Interesting. I don't have Winzip installed, so maybe in certain instances that could be causing issues.

Glad you figured it out.

I followed the video but when you hook up the book unit to your computer, with the sd card already inside, it automatically boots up. No way to keep it turned off for 5 minutes, as the video shows. Help!
