Root Question About Rooting

A friend of mine just got the captivate. He was disappointed to find out that he is not going to be able to install apps or anything outside the marketplace. (Not talking pirated apps). I was wondering if by rooting his phone would he be able to install these type of apps wthout using sdk. I am not always going to be around to help him with the sdk process so we are trying to find an easier way.

I am sort-of a newb myself but if I am correct, there is a way to side-load apps now without rooting. It is super easy and I believe it is called Side Load Wonder Machine....not sure where to point you, but i'm sure you would find it quickly doing a search...

Just what I was looking for. Thank you. Had no idea about this, I am on verizon and have a Droid so there is no need for this for me but it is great it is there for the peeps that need it.
