Help Question about Shutting down Evo and it restarted

Evo4sickness

Android Enthusiast
This is the first time its ever done it and Iam not understanding why or how. Just wanted know if anyone has had this happen to them and any info on maybe why.

Do you have any more information for us? So you completely shut down / turned off the phone and it automatically booted back up? Do you have it set to automatically turn on in the settings?

Yes thats not what happened. I went to shut it down the screen that shows up asking what you want to do showed up I pressed shut down and instead of shuting down it acted as If I just turned it on or rebooting. Any Ideas cuz I have searched for this and havent found anyone who it has happened to.

Maybe a random glitch - report back if it happens again.

I had my Evo reboot twice, early on, about six months ago. Then never again.

It's running a full-up operating system, so like a laptop or something - it can just glitch.

If it does it more, it's a problem and should be chased down. Otherwise, if it were me, I'd wait and see and not sweat it if it turns out to be a one-time deal.

The same thing happened to me twice. I just updated to the new software, but it hasn't done it since. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one.

Ok thanks for info that is true that it really is a pokect computer and ten million times more. Also another question do you know if I shoukd upgrade to the newest firmware 65.3 and if maybe it might have to do with it. The only reason I havent downloaded it is because I wanna know If I wipl be able to root after that. I posted a thread on this on the everything root and cupcakes and havent gotten a response do you know.

Personally, I always recommend upgrading to the newest firmware.

Here's a good thread to know about in case you have trouble later - OR - if you just want to learn some good backup / restore ideas. (I really recommend that - after all, we carry these things in our pocket, we drop them, we lose them - you know) - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/141369-how-fix-froyo.html

As to your question - I don't recognize the firmware rev 65.3 - maybe something lost during editing (happens to me all the time, don't sweat that either).

Here's where you want to post your exact revision number and ask if you can root now: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/

Probably better to root before updating - if you're going to root.

Non-root update

Now - if you're just running the stock, wonderful Evo we all know and love, then they just came out with a new firmware, 3.70.651.1.

Before you follow the advice I'm about to give - check here to see if this update is everything you want or if you'll have issues - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/237750-maintenance-update-released.html

Assuming you're ready to proceed (I think it's a good update for everyone) -

**If you're getting an update notice for a number lower than that - don't sweat that, either. In such a case, you're simply an update behind, and they often need you to take them in order. So, download the one you're being asked about if it's not that one, then when that's done, go to your home screen, then Menu -> Settings -> System updates -> Firmware update and see if it gives you the newest one. (And you know - it might be HTC software update - I get confused.)

When you're done, in that menu - sure, update your profile and your PRL.

Root update

Once you root, you can get a mega-update for your phone that takes you to the stock 3.70.651.1 - only rooted.

We and others can guide you through that in the root subforum, linked above.

Clear as mud or did I make sense there? :)
