Android Question

This doesn't really partain to Android in particular but cell phones in general,
But I figured I'd ask.

In most cellphone design, does the subscriber identity module connect to the baseband processor electrically and in software, or does it connect to the CPU? Is subscriber information part of the baseband operating system or the main system, and is this any different on Android devices than it is on typical cell phones?

It is read by the software, and the embedded info passed to the host network.

Is subscriber information part of the baseband operating system or the main system

Neither; the IC on the card contains all the subscriber info e.g. the ICCID and IMSI numbers, authentication and ciphering information, the PIN and PUK codes, list of applicable network services etc.

is this any different on Android devices than it is on typical cell phones?

No, as SIM cards are by design universally interchangeable between devices.
