Question about sliding apps pages

Okay, I dont have a captivate yet but I do plan to get one within the next month. Wife says we have to wait until we get out taxes back before we get new phones. I have looked around and seen how to add apps through differnent methods, seen a bit about rooting the phone. One thing that i havent seen is changing they way you change how the app pages slide.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo9BIRXvNfw&feature=related in this video, don't worry to much about the content of the vidoes, at around 2:15 you see him scroll through his apps and the pages go up and down, not side to side. Is this actually possible through settings or does something need to be updated, rooted, different app installed to aquire this feature. I have searched around but couldn't find anything so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

On a side note, have looked around the site and there is a lot of into to gain here, glad that I joined. Just doing some research on the phone before i get it and I have read about problems but most phones have their own problems but I am still planning on getting the phone.

If you aren't buying right now, you may have more options than the Captivate. I have heard that the Motorola Atrix is coming out possibly in February. Might be a better option than the Captivate.

As far as scrolling through apps on the Captivate, I believe the stock launcher, TouchWIz, only allows you to scroll left to right. But there are other launchers, such as launcher Pro, that allow you to scroll up and down without rooting.

Different launchers let you scroll through apps differently. most use the vertical scrolling but no root or anything is required. and as far as the atrix goes, imho motorola phones suck but thats off the topic

Curious about your take on motorola phones. Ive never had one, but I thought the Droid and Droid X were supposed to be good?

ive played with their screens and they are terrible. the dont look good, they arent nearly as responsive as the captivate, i had to press buttons multiple times for it to read my presses. and this was on a droid x. there was also alot of skipping and checkerboarding when scrolling. i really hated it. will the atrix be different, i dont know, but motorola locks the bootloader anyways so i wont be buying one for sure

Gotcha, thanks. I guess I'll have to play around with an Atrix before I buy. I'm just ready for something new and the Atrix seems like the new bandwagon to jump on.
