Help Question about syncing social networks

So I synced facebook to my DroidX so that I can add fb contacts to my phone. The only downside of this is that now I'm getting "status updates" coming in every minute and I don't think this is going to help my battery at all.

Is there a way to stop getting the status updates, but keep the contacts?

Go into your FB app and go to your FB menu, then hit your menu key and go to setting----->notifications---->off
