Help question about the auto-sync feature

i am trying to play around with the email and autosync features. if i were to turn off auto-sync, would the mail (not google mail) application still sync at the frequency that i set since the mail application is not under the sync list where the weather, news, facebook sync settings are?

The auto sync on my phone seems only to affect Google services like contacts, calendar, (gmail? I don't use it). My text and other email accounts all sync fine when it is turned off..even Gdocs. I keep my background data and auto sync off...and if I add a calendar event or change/add a contact I enable it and it syncs right away.

so the mail application that came with my desire should still sync when auto-sync is turned off correct?

Correct...on my Epic. Turn auto sync off and send yourself an email to confirm.
