Help Question about the lock screen

Hey guys. I received my Note 2 coming from a Bionic and I am loving the transition. However, I am noticing one thing regarding the screen lock.

On the Bionic, I can set the security for the screen (pattern) and only need to authenticate once every 30 minutes. I was able to get a swipe lock screen in the meantime which was a real help when getting a quick access to my camera or messaging.

On the Note 2 I either have to authenticate every time on the lock screen or authenticate once and in the meantime if I power off and power on, I get no lock screen and end up where I was last left on the phone. That can pose a great problem when in my pocket.

Is there a way to make the phone work like it did on my Bionic or do I have to choose between authenticating every time I get a lock screen or not have any security all in exchange for having a quick access to features and protection from pocket dialing?

I'm replying because your post has been read a lot with no reply.
I don't use the lock screen at all but if I remember correctly I believe you have to authenticate every time.

There are others around here who actually do use the lock screen and may be able to provide a better answer.

Yes, a lock screen always needs authenticating.
My solution to the problem is:

Set screen to lock 30 mins after auto screen off
Set screen to lock immediately on power off using button
Set auto screen off to 1 min
Now stop using the power off button! Just let it turn off when you put it down for a few minutes.
Use the power button if putting it in your pocket.

To keep something like the quick swipe lock access I use an app called swipepad which works from any screen except the lock screen (but you only have a lock screen if it had been off for over 30 mins)

Thanks for the replies it's a shame that such a common sense feature has been taken out. It seems like it takes more work to make such a simple and obvious feature to not work than it is to keep it in. I don't understand the reasoning behind giving you an option to wait X number or minutes to lock the phone when in the meantime you risk powering on your phone and opening apps because there is no lock screen to stop it from happening. It's ridiculous.

This is correct, but there is a workaround. If you use a 3rd party lockscreen, you can set it so that you only have to input the password every 30 minutes.

This is how I have it set up, using Widgetlocker. With Widgetlocker enabled, I don't have to go by the Samsung requirements of having to enter my pin every time I unlock the phone. Since my work exchange requires a PIN, this has been a perfect workaround for me and I actually still love using Widgetlocker as compared to the OEM lockscreen.
