Root Question about this walk through

Ok so I was reading through this walk throughEd01 froyo "how to root" vzw fascinate ota update - xda-developers and I got to the point where it says to do all those wipes and I was just wondering will that erase all my apps ?

Also with following those directions will I have to flash a new kernal or anything if I deside to do ComRom2.0?

Yes, data wipe will erase all apps.
There are different versions of CommRom that include kernals or not.

Would I be ok to use the one with out a kernal. The only reason for me not using one is thatch I'm not that well read up on the fifteenth kernals.

Also do i have to wipe data to load cwm and tall the other zips
