Question about turning off apps

Hey guys,

So i've had my DX for about a week now and i'm loving it. I d/l Advance Task Manager and have noticed alot of un-necessary programs and apps running. How do i go about turning them off. The following list is...
Music, Skype Mobile, Photo Swap, Social Network, news, voice commands, contacts, dialer. I know voice commands and dialer stay up but how do i turn everything else off. Thanks

Joe

There are numerous threads about this, most of which end with "you don't need a task manager, android handles this just fine". Sorry to be so vague, it's just been covered already.

I use a task killer only when the browser crashes and won't scroll. Everything else I just let run. From what I've read in other threads, killing apps manually won't help your battery much if at all.

They aren't "running". They are just in memory for quick access. If the system needs memory, it'll clear out memory as it sees fit. Delete your task manager and stop looking so closely. It's under control.

Thank you guys for your replies. If i delete the task manager and just let the apps go and they pile up like they do, will it slow the phone down any? I do not feel comfortable rooting yet so i'm not going to do that just yet, need to do some more reading on it.

Thanks

I never noticed too much lag when those apps are on in the background. Android manages them well enough.

Not all task killers are bad, just the ones that "autokill" apps. You can use a task killer to kill selected apps, especially if they are misbehaving, or use system resources in the background. So to sum it up, use a task killer for precision work, to kill only one or a few apps, not as a shotgun to blast/"kill" all apps from running/appearing in memory.

Sure, Android has a built in application manager, but a good task killer is much easier to use and has a nicer interface.

Can you explain to a newb how to do this?

It involves rooting your device and using an app like Root Explorer in your System folder. You can seriously brick your device if you don't know what you are doing, so you should learn a bit more about Android and your device before worrying about stuff like this. ;)
