Question: Can developers fix the crappy reception on the Nexus S 4G?

I was wondering why developers have not been able to fix the signal issues on this phone? It does not appear to simply be a hardware problem since it worked well for a few weeks...
With that logic though, how would that indicate a software issue? That would sound more like a Sprint service issue. As far as developers, I don't believe they would do anything with the radio drivers with a phone.

Been with Sprint for years. My wife's phone (Samsung instinct) always has much better reception than I do sitting 3 feet away. All my old phones performed better than this one too.

Google And Sprint seemed to think they could solve it with software. Didn't hear anyone arguing the theory before the update either. Other phones have received developer made GPS upgrades...
I used to not be able to connect to 4g at all just download the update it'll fix that problem
No 4G in my area really. It's the 3G that kills me.

My point was that now that the software update has come out with a radio driver update that appears to not have solved the issue for some, and as you mentioned, in your case it worked well for a bit, how does that rule out a hardware issue? Maybe quite possible issue with how the antennae was engineered. Not saying it is a hardware issue, but if Samsung/Google/Sprint couldn't apparently fix it with updated drivers, and if it is software I just dont see the developer community fixing it with custom drivers. All the ROMs I've used don't include the radios. I agree, it is an odd issue. In my case, both before and after the update, I've not had any issues with reception. I've been with Sprint for over 12 years, had numerous phones and my experience with my NS4G reception has been on par with my other phones.
Maybe it really is a mix of just crappy radios and/or antennae design and Sprint service. Perhaps in my area, because of the way the service is, I've been unaffected but the issue as a whole cannot be solved by software. Shrug, I don't know. Just giving some thoughts because it's become a polarizing issue for sure.
