Question: Can I use Gingerbread on a stock Vibrant?

Okay, this is a noob question, but I've decided that I want to keep my stock software on my new Vibrant because I'm afraid of voiding warranty and my T-mobile insurance, not to mention screwing up my phone and have my dad's thick sausage fingers on my neck.

I know that this is being very highly optimistic for Samsung's slow updates, but if they released an official Gingerbread for Galaxy users can I use it on my Vibrant by the time it comes out or will I have to buy a completely new phone in order to take advantage of the cool new features. I know for one thing that some features like front-facing camera that Gingerbread supports, I can't take advantage of for example, because the phone doesn't have that feature. What other cool fandangles will I be missing out on for not having a phone that can't catch up to the software changes? I don't even want to dream about Honeycomb 3.0.

One of the most annoying bugs I find on 2.1 is the copy/paste features. When I do "select text" from the menu options, I paste and it pastes the entire text wrong with missing letters and repeated sentences.

well i have noticed that when using opera mini
but if you want gingerbread you gonna have to root and load rom
you can always odin back to stock if you ever need to send the phone in
but there is also a gingerbread keyboard that can be installed
i dont believe it requires root to function
but i also believe there is a gingerbread launcher too.
if so they both may be on the market
if they arent there you will have to search the forums, like xda and many new others

To be honest, there's absolutely nothing ground breaking in 2.3.

Front facing camera support - well, I could do that with my Galaxy S straight out of the box.
Better text input - You can download gingerbread keyboard from the internet. Text selection has been improved, but it's not necessary.
Near-field communication - if you don't know what this is, it means you won't use it anyway.
Better power management - no verdict on whether there's actually any significant change.

Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's necessary or will blow your mind. If you're not interested in voiding your warranty, then you're not going to ever need the FFC on a vibrant (front facing camera). The other stuff is minimal. Put a custom ROM on it (such as Axura or Nero, found on XDA developers) and you'll get these improvements right away.
