QUESTION For Ang GSII Owner about the processor

daivik

Android Enthusiast
Hi,

Just quickly, any person who's actually got the device,

what processor do you actually have?? (Can you tell from system info or something???)

Is it the Tegra 2 or Exynos (sammy's one)

cheers.

Thank goodness, mine is arriving monday or something, MobiCityOnline promised to give me final specs when they shipped, but it didn't happen, I'm hoping not to rage when I get it.

Wait..how do you know mobilecityonline is shipping your phone Monday? Or did I misunderstand you?

Exynos CPU can handle blue-ray full HD video playback better. Tegra II can't handle it. Also the SGS's hummingbird chip has similar GPU to Tegra II so it doesn't really stand a chance. I'm so glad U.K got Sammy's Exynos not Nvidia's.

The lack of Tegra exclusive games is a shame, but there's nothing outstanding looking that we are missing out on. I wouldn't say it's a boycott, but I'm glad I'm not participating in a scheme that splits the Android community like hardware exclusive games.

Sorry, for absolute claficication, My GSII is coming from mobicity.com.au not mobilecityonline.com, I've been getting confused between the 2 aswell.
My unit is being shipped by Fedex with tracking number, and it's calculated arrival is for tomorrow.

Not sure if the Tegra SII is only 1Ghz, I don't see why not, also i read the Tegra version has an 'octocore' (8 cores) GPU, alas that was on wikipedia I think lol.

I don't get how anyone can play games on a touchscreen if they aren't click&and drag type games etc, Phone>microUSB-USB Adaptor>USB-PSX controller Adaptor>PSX controller lol?

Both are 1.2Ghz. It's just the Exynos (sammys one) is new and a better from what people are saying. Just seems logical to thing...made my samsung for a samsung phone meaning more optimisation.

The freebie case that came with it was both broken and way too small for the phone lol. has '9500' on a label stuck on it.

The battery cover is annoying to remove, it peels off/snaps out like a piece of bark, thought I was going to break it, But if that's what had to be done to get it so thin then I can't complain.

I thought that at first, but then i thought, how often do i have to remove the back? This phone works, it doesnt crash and require the battery to be removed to force restart it. As such i havent actually removed the back since i first put it together!

Yeah, that's kind of the clever part, apart from the SD card being in there, maybe they don't want you hot swapping them, it could cause a problem?
Extremely awesome phone, clearly it's the Veyron of phones.

Tegra 2 in the S2 is going to be 1.2ghz? First I'd heard. February this year, the S2 itself was still 1ghz (processor unknown). All other phones are running Tegra2 at 1ghz.

I suppose the only danger is Tegra could become very popular and lots more games would be then excluded from non-Tegra phones. I just find it strange that game developers would willingly limit their customer base (especially when the prices are so low).

Anyway, Sony's NGP will soon become the new haunt for portable AAA titles.

Samsung should have gone to the effort to label on the boxed and manual which model you have.
The tegra one shouldn't have the Super AMOLED logo on the bottom of the box, the tegra one should have i9103 on the lower left of the bottom of the box, instead of i9100.
This number will also be printed in the manual

lol That's why sammy had to bump their chip to 1.2 late because it kept losing to tegra 2 in tests.

Exynos is not better and mali gpu performs below galaxy 1.

If you think its that great go to smartbench 2011 gaming/productivity

Maybe you have not seen this.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Sets The World Ablaze With New Benchmarks

And recent tests with retail models often score above 3300 on Quadrant, sometimes even above 3500. Even if Tegra2 is bumped up to 1.2Ghz, Exynos is still a little faster.

The tegra2 in the atrix sucked. After using that phone for 2 weeks made my decision easier. Haven't had a single hiccup. In my 5 days of ownership.

Nena Innovation AB - NenaMark1 results

Look at some real benchmarks.

Can't even beat a pathetic lg 2x

Quadrant is inaccurate and pointless, anyone at xda forums will tell you that.

Tegra 2 on s2 already beat exynos clock for clock

Plus you have to remember s2 is pushing 30% less pixels on every test compared to something like the Atrix and its running 2.3 v 2.2

Can you not see how s2 can't even compete with s1 in smartbench gaming................lol

Where is SGS2 in that link on NenaMark1? when was it conducted?
Your links on GLbench is completely outdated and pointless at this time. It was done by anandtech with demo phone at MWC in February. Everyone knows that SGSII at that time had unfinished drivers. It even scored below 2000 in quddrant but now with finished drivers in retail version its quadrant score gained 70% over that, scoring consistently around 3300. The new smartbench score in my link reflects that by showing it beats HTC pyramid (dual core snapdragon 1.2Ghz) by nearly 2X. So it's safe bet that Exynos in finished SGSII beats tegra2 handily in smartbench as well after gaining 70% in quadrant.

Obviously you don't have SGSII and I don't know why you try to trash its performance. Everyone who bought it early seems to be amazed by its fast response and smoothness too, which matters more to people.

Oh, now I see where SGSIIs are in your chart table. I didn't first notice it on the graph. Well, looks like you don't know that they put graphic frame cap on SGSII at 60fps, do you? If that is lifted, I bet SGSII score will go through roof.
