Root Question From A Newb

Sport08

Lurker
I'm new to the Android world and even though I have experience jailbreaking my previous fruit phone, I have no experience with rooting and it may be awhile before I even attempt it. With that being said, how do I clean out my android to reinstall new apps, themes, etc? I think I put too many things on too quickly and I want to start anew. HELP ANYONE!!

If you don't mind losing everything on your phone, try a factory reset. It will erase all your user apps and data, and will be like a fresh slate.

Assuming you have the Marquee...
With the power off, and the phone not plugged in, press and hold your volume down key and then press and hold your Power key at the same time. Continue holding them (the 4 hard keys at the bottom will start to flash, keep holding volume down and power).

You should see a recovery screen after a few seconds. After that, simply select the option to clear your data/factory reset. Reboot and you should be good to go.

If he is not rooted, than i am assuming he wouldn't have CWM installed.. If this is the case, couldn't you go to Menu>Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset? Could be wrong , just an idea...

You can factory reset in the stock recovery as well.

Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset will get the same results, so yes, you can do it either way.

I only mentioned it because if he is not rooted then odds are he also doesn't have CWM. So that would be the way to go, I assume.

I appreciate the answers but let me ask one more question before I clear out my phone. What happens to the apps that I have purchased from the market is there a way to retain or save certain ones or are they saved in my market account? And btw my phone as of right now is NOT rooted. Yes I do have a boost mobile marquee.

Your paid apps will always appear in the market, just log in and look at the My Apps section ;)

Indeed, they will be there as Sik00 mentioned. If your really worried about it, you could root real quick (literally takes 5 minutes or less) and use TiBU (Titanium Backup) and back them up. (TiBU will back up the Apps + Data. Such as achievements on Angry Birds or certain settings you have saved.) Just a suggestion, Rooting is quick and easy.
