Question: Nexus S for Australia

Hi, I'm living in Australia and currently using Optus network. At the moment, I'm considering buying a Nexus S from America. Will i be able to use the Nexus S in Australia? Thanks for your answer and advice!

It looks like Optus uses 900/2100mhz for their duel band 3G and the Nexus S uses those frequences on its Tri Band. It should work fine for you down there. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

im not sure about this, but doesn't America use CDMA network while Australia uses GSM. Like I said im not sure but take that into consideration.

Verizon and Sprint are the big carriers in America that use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. The Nexus S is a GSM device.

Thanks guys! This is what i found on the Nexus website: "Unlocked by default
Out of the box, Nexus S is unlocked, so it will work with any GSM carrier"

Yes, it will work on any GSM carrier, but the trick is whether or not it will work with that carrier's 3G network. The Nexus S is compatible with 900/1700/2100MHz 3G networks. As someone already mentioned, it appears that Optus uses 900/2100, so the NS should work just fine, 3G included.

I can confirm that the Nexus S works (and well) with the Optus 3G network.

Mine arrived this morning (in Brisbane) and I've had no problems; as others said, the 900/2100 MHz frequencies used by Optus are supported by the phone.
