Root Question on installing ROMs

I've just rooted my wife's OG droid, using the Soup or Root method and it seemed to work fine. I backed up with clockworkmod, but I can't get any new ROMs to install correctly.

First I tried CM7. The CWM screen said it had installed correctly, so I hit reboot device and it booted to the CM7 splash screen for almost 3 hours, so I pulled the batter. I restored my nandroid and tried again, but had the same result (though only 45min). I then restored and tried Bugless Beast, and the same thing happened (I'm at 50min at time of posting, still just showing the stock droid boot screens).

I realize the first boot will probably take a little while, but would it really be 45min+?

What can I do to get one of these ROMs installed correctly?

Your going to have to wipe date and cache when you install a new rom if you don't you will get a boot. If you are just going to the newest update from the dev. you can get away without wiping.

Ok yeah, I tried doing it from the CWM app (not recovery screen) and hit the wipe cache/data and it worked just fine. All the instructions I found said to boot into the recovery mode and do it from there =/. All's well that ends well though. Got a GB ROM on there now that seems to be working well.

Thanks!

I am having a similar problem. I was unable to install from sd card using rom manager so I went into recovery mode(??) by hitting x and power at startup and then installed using update.zip that I had renamed from download of cyanogen and later bugless beast. It says it installs fine but then gets cought in the startup screen and loops. How do I fix this?

restart into recovery mode and wipe data and cache. the reboot and it should be fine. what recovery are you using? is it cw, spf or rzr spr

Just to be clear, there are three custom recoveries for the Motorola A855/Droid 1 phone; SirPhsycoS Recovery (SPR), ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWR), and RaidZero Recovery (RZR). Just trying to keep the 'monikers' pure, no offence intended.
